Athletes of the Month: March

Every month the athletic department will recognize 1 boy and 1 girl from both the High School and 1 Athlete per sport, per month at the Middle School campus for outstanding athletic achievement and character qualities. These candidates are nominated by their coaches.

HIGH SCHOOL

Dani Williams

Dani Williams has been an awesome addition to the Lady Lion jumps team. She has competed in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump this year. In Ambassador League meet #1, she placed 4th in the high jump (4′ 4″) and 1st in the triple jump (30’10”). Both of these marks were PRs for Dani. At the Saddle Up Invitational, she medaled, with a 4th place finish in the F/S triple jump. Coach Burns, the Lions jump coach, had this to say about Dani: “She has shown the willingness to work hard and compete. She has gotten better each week as she receives coaching and takes the tools given to be at her best.” As a freshman, Dani has made a huge impact on the success of the girls team so far this year and we look forward to watching her compete all season!

Mitch Simon

Mitch Simon currently leads the varsity baseball team with a .400 batting average, .600 slugging percentage, and 1.100 OPS. He is second on the team with a .500 on base percentage and is 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts. Mitch also leads the team with 14 assists including multiple highlight reel plays at SS. Mitch is constantly striving to be better, works hard on his craft, and brings a great attitude to the yard each and every day. He expects greatness from himself and those around him, and will continue to be a great asset to the varsity baseball program throughout the rest of the season and in the future.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Daisy Gale

There is no denying Daisy’s passion for the game of basketball. Daisy, AKA, Ms. Clutch, made game winning baskets in both the semifinals and championship games; no stage is too big for Daisy. She has truly grown this year as a leader on and off the court. She has figured out there is more to basketball than just scoring and has helped her team grow in skill and knowledge of the game.

Christian Coles

Christian was a huge asset to the success of the boys varsity basketball team this season. He led the team in scoring all season, including 29 points in the semi-final victory over Van Avery Prep. Christian’s basketball future is bright, and we look forward to seeing his success continue at the high school level.

Alex Massie

Alex transferred to Linfield in early January, joining the girls JV basketball team right before the first game of the season. Immediately, she stood out with her hard-driving offense and skillful dribbling, which was matched by her relentless defense. As the point guard, Alex set the pace that led the team to a championship. She played every game with courage and tenacity, like a true Lion.

Braylen Munson-McDowell

Braylen was the vocal leader of the boys JV basketball team. He was the team’s best defender and key rebounder. A highlight of the season was when Bralyen made the game winning basket with seven seconds remaining against cross town rival Rancho Christian; a victory that sent the team to the championship game. Braylen also excels off the court. He represented Linfield in the District School Spelling Bee, was cast as a lead role in Aladdin, and received High Honor Roll honors.
